Opinions needed

Here's where I'm at on the Noro socks, but I have a two-part dilemma so they're on hold until I get some opinions.

Problem 1 is notice the icky green after the purple.  There is a whole bunch of that icky green, going into greenish yellow, before you get back to red.  I don't understand why it's there because those colors definitely don't show up in a normal rainbow.  Should I cut that part out of the skein?

Problem 2 is the following.  The Noro yarn has 3 full repeats.  The problem is that 1 repeat is not enough to do a whole sock, so I need to get into the second repeat.  But that means I can't make these socks exactly the same.  So my options are a) make the foot and heel identical, and then the top of the leg not match up or b) start the second sock with green, blue, purple so it will follow the same color sequence as the first sock, but start in a different place in the sequence.  I'm sad because I really wanted to make matching socks, but I guess it just isn't meant to be.

I could probably get two matching socks if I made them a little shorter than normal, but that would mean the entire leg and cuff would have to be in the green, which I think takes away from the rainbow.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on both issues - should I cut out the olive green and how should I handle coordinating the two?  If you want to see others who have made socks in this colorway, check out these and these.

Give & Take

I was very excited to get to attend my LSSK group's Austin meeting two months in a row.  I won't be able to go to the next few, though, which makes me sad.  Our leader, Vicki, got sick and wasn't able to be there yesterday, so I was told (through Laura) that I had better take pictures.  Our group picture didn't come out, but here are some candids.

I have been almost done the Dale baby dress since around the beginning of the year, but the finishing work requires the kind of attention I don't have for my knitting when school is in session.  I did most of the smocking at the January Borders meetup, but you can see here that I still have a mess of ends to weave in.

Laura was kind enough to teach me how to do the crochet border.  Here's what I have so far with 1.5 rounds of the border.  The third round will give it scallops.  This same border will be applied at the armholes.

Laura is so awesome!  This is the second baby project that she has taught me the crochet for.  The other was the Dragon Hoodie.  I don't like crocheting b/c you have to actually look at what you're doing to figure out where to put the hook through, but I have to admit it is such a great trim as it adds just that little extra detail to a project.  Now I just have to find the time to finish the crochet and gift this, because the weather has gotten nice enough for the baby to start wearing it once I give it to her.

I did a demo of the Judy's magic cast-on that I've been using for my socks lately.  I really like the way it looks, especially how the colors work out as compared to a short-row toe.

I also took an update picture of the Noro Rainbow sock that shows my latest progress turning the heel.  Gotta love the purple section!!

Socks, socks and more socks

I showed you two of my socks in progress last time, but my new Knit Picks sock needles came in, and I had my new Noro sock yarn balled up and ready to go, so I put the OU socks to the side (I've turned the heel on the first) and cast on with the Noro.  Here's what I have so far:

Very fun socks!  I had heard that the yarn is on the finer side of fingering weight, especially because it has a bit of thick and thin tendency and the thin is very thin.  So, I am using US 0's and getting a very tight fabric.  While I probably could have gotten away with my usual size 1's, I think once I wash these and they soften up (like everyone says they will), I will probably be happy that I used the 0's.  And hopefully it will help them wear better.

Here's me working on the socks while doing homework.  And Major in his usual position as well.

And here's a picture of the first OU sock, now on hold.  I turned the heel on this, put it on waste yarn, cast on for the toe for the second, and now they will probably have to wait until I finish the Noro's.  OU just can't beat out pretty rainbows.
